Inulin is well known as a natural - prebiotic - dietary fiber. In Europe, inulin is extracted from chicory, industrial indoor cultivation, with artificial light. EnergyBalance® obtains this inulin from certified organic agave from outdoor cultivation. Unfortunately, not all the inulin has the same degree of purity. There is inulin quality on the market with a low purity of only 50% or 70% degree. A fact often hidden by many producers. Consumers should read the label, if the purity is not mentioned, the purity can be only 50%. EnergyBalance® has chosen for its customers only the purest inulin quality with 90% fiber content and certified organic production made from sun grown agave plant.
A sweet fructooligosaccharide (FOS)
Inulin is a fructan, a naturally occurring polysaccharide (fructooligosaccharide) - this is the reason why Inulin has a sweet taste. The inulin fiber is part of a natural polysaccharide molecule. To obtain the inulin fiber, it needs to be separated from the saccharides in a special extraction process. Unfortunately not all the saccharides can be removed. In a high purity inulin min. 10% polysaccharides remain attached to 90% fiber. The quality of inulin is measured by the content of fiber.
Inuline in the intestines: how it works
The inulin fiber cannot be digested by the gastric juices and the stomach's digestive enzymes. Therefore inulin will pass through the stomach without being digested and enters into the large intestine, bowel or co-lon, where it is promoting the growth of beneficial intestinal bacteria - bifido bacteria. The growing quantity of beneficial intestinal bacteria can strengthen the intestinal flora and stimulate the immune system.
The intake of inulin dietary fiber will affect and change intestinal flora. This can result in flatulence, stomach noises or bloating. If you feel uncomfortable, reduce the quantity for several days and give your intestine time to change the flora, before you increase the quantity again.
